This article explores the racialized dimensions of carceral spaces through which Palestinian prisoners pass, subjected to military courts and prisons as a consequence of their ethnic identity, when Jewish citizens are afforded access to civilian systems and spaces of discipline. As detainees are captured, they move through the multivariate spaces of military bases, interrogation centres, detention centres, courts, and finally prisons. These smaller spaces exist within the exclusive enclaves of the West Bank and the Israeli 1948 territories, adding a further layer of limitation of access. This article examines the convoluted geographies of arrest and incarceration through interviews with a number of Palestinian former prisoners and their families to reconstruct the clandestine geographies of incarceration under occupation.
