This study uses Spatial Analysis Systems (SAS) available in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to model the geographic location of the optimum landfill sites for domestic waste in Kuwait. Justification for and methods of identifying different informative criteria used by SAS in choosing optimum sites are suggested. The degree to which sites met each criterion and the interrelation among criteria were considered through maps. Maps of the different criteria such as soil, vegetation, groundwater, geomorphology, oil wells, urban areas, and roads were digitized. Spatial analysis (SA) was conducted to model the layer maps in a way that provided explanations for and categorization of domestic-waste landfill locations.
